The hill people of Pouri-Garhwal have added their own flavour of the presentation of Rama’s story. The narration in verses is accompanied by music, which has a predominant flavor of Shastriya Sangeet (classical music), permeated by tones and rhythms of local Garhwali dance and music. They have built a permanent Rangmanch – theatrical space and even use modern gadgets to present certain episodes. There are some additional episodes like Lord Shiva explaining the mystery of creation of Goddess Parvati, Ravana’s darbar, the story of Rama’s birth etc. Artists, both men and women, give a professional performance and the dance is skill fully orchestrated to choreograph certain events.
