About the CD

Mantra is sacred sound, chanted to aid concentration or to express the essence of a sutra. It is like a short scripture or a series of syllables used in meditation and rituals. It consists of sounds or words that enable one to cut through discriminating thoughts so the mind can become clear.

Out of the many spiritual practices available to us, chanting mantras is widely believed to lead to the path of spiritual Ecstasy. It is a way of joyfully offering prayers for ourselves and for all those we care for. By chanting mantras, we effortlessly discard the tensions, burdens, suffering and pain generated by our modern life. When these mantras are rendered as a medium of devotion in the form of a devotional hymn, they are considered to become "sanjivni" or elixir for the audience. Continuous repetition of God's name or these devotional hymns is believed to be essential in establishing soulful contact Iwith the God. When these devotional hymns are rendered in the divine voice and unchallenged style of Sangeet Samarat Pandit Bhimsen Joshi, it uplifts the audience and erases anguish that may be embedded deep in their hearts.

In this album Pandit Bhimsen Joshi sings Ram Krishna Hari Mantra in the form of a continuous soothing chant. Ram Krishna Hari mantra is believed not only to help in establishing profound contact with the almighty but also enabling the listeners in liberating themselves from the sins that they may have committed in the past. It's considered to bestow them with immense mental progression through the positive vibes that it emanates. It purifies the mind, body and soul, charging the environs with healing energy.

Sing the sacred mantra with Pandit Bhimsen Joshi to invite waves of peace for your loved ones and the whole world. Feel liberated!

About the Artistes

Acknowledged as the leading light of the Kirana Gharana, Pandit Bhimsen Gururaj Joshi is a sheer musical marvel whose singing invariably provides listeners with a divine musical experience. Born in 1922 into a conservative Brahmin family in Gadag, Karnataka, Bhimsen Joshi displayed the signs of being a musical genius from an early age. He ran away from home and started learning music at the age of 11 against his father's wishes. But when his father became aware of Bhimsen's talent in singing and his fervent desire for knowledge in music, he made arrangements for him to learn under the guidance of Sawai Gandharva of Kundol, a pupil of Abdul Karim Khan.

His natural tuneful voice received further polish under the tutelage of his guru and with relentless riyaaz, his gayaki began to shine with a new luminescence that has dazzled the entire country. Through his amazing absorption of the soul of various gayaki styles, he has created a unique musical blend, adding his own introspective aesthetic sense to it that is intriguing, structured and innovative all at once. For over four decades now, he has been leading the renaissance of Indian classical music with the passion and power of a singer drenched in single pointed thirst for music. He has been honoured with numerous awards and titles such as the Padma Shree and Padma Bhushan by the Government of India and the Sangeet Natak Akademi award amongst others.
