Music for Soul - Vishwa Mohan Bhatt

Iptada - An interesting interplay between the mohan veena and other instruments along with the vocals based on raga Kirwani creates soul-searching magic. The piece transports one from the mundane to elevated spaces where one is blessed with infinite vision, providing a catharsis for suppressed emotions.

Journey into eternity - Based on the Bhinna Shadaja, the composition is a kaleidoscope of rich melodies and upbeat rhythms. It is a journey reminding one of those romantic moments once shared by lovers which were like elixir for their souls. It also makes one realize the pain and desires the souls lives through to reach the bliss of romantic togetherness.

Celebration - The melody evokes the vatsalya bhava (love for a young one) in the soul and is set on soft notes played on the mellifluous Mohan veena along with the flute crating the effect of the bonding between a mother and her child. It creates the picture of the tender moments of love and affection that a mother showers on her child. The vocal alaap by Sadhna Sargam merges with the music to convey various moods. The beautiful tarana in Hamsadhwani woven along with the flute creates a colourful palette.

Desert Odyssey - The soulful saxophone opening breaks into a mellifluous harmony of Arabic melody played beautifully on string instruments along with the Mohan veena, the heart-rending violin and haunting melody reminiscent of a desert of endless sand dunes, creating a trance-like effect. This piece-de-la-resistance is the ultimate romancing of two souls yearning to unite and has all the flavours of love, romance and seduction, personifying the union of two souls.

Mountain trail - The composition evoking the karuna rasa (pathos) is fresh as a spring morning. The composition opens with string instruments and vocal alaaps followed by the soulful Mohan veena playing on the motes of raga Bageshree. The age-old raga played in a unique style is a fulfilling experience, contemplative and philosophical.

Waterfall - This is a devotional piece with the samarpan bhava (feeling of surrender) of the soul as its essence. It depicts the desire of the soul to unite with the almighty. The Mohan veena accompanied by string instruments weaves a delicate melody based on raga Kafi along with the soulful, melodious flute, creating the feel of a waterfall of devotion.

Compassion - This piece evokes the feeling of viraha (separation) at times and at others flashes past experiences merging them with the present and the future. The composition in raga Bhairavi is an inspiring journey in the pasture of beautiful melodies. The vocals converge with the Mohan veena, the saxophone and other instruments to complete the soulful picture.

Release - The Saxophone and Mohan veena create enchanting energy with the violin and other instruments in this beautiful composition based on raga Jog taking the soul on a high experience of absolute surrender. The dominating scale of the raga is robust and lively, making the soul break free of inhibitions and releasing any pent up emotions.

Music for Soul
Music Composed by Vishwa Mohan Bhatt

As the name suggests, the album moves the inner being, taking the soul on a beautiful journey of haunting melodies, yet creating an experience of absolute abandon.

Vishwa Mohan Bhatt, the 1994 Grammy Award winner creates a soulful fusion of various string instruments including the santoor, the Spanish guitar and the violin. The saxophone, flute, harp and accompanied by melodious alaaps sung by Sadhna Sargam complete the picture of blissful harmony created by the maestro’s innovative Mohan veena.
The compilation of eight tracks is woven in an intricate fabric based on ragas such as Kafi, Jog, Kirwani, Yaman, Hamsadhwani and Bageshree. Each composition brings forth the immense ease with which the artiste has fused the Indian with western to create a mellifluous assortment.

There is a simple beauty in the interplay between the Mohan veena, the santoor and the violin along with the flute, which has been incorporated to form a unique blend. The effect is a soul - searching trip, haunting, yet soothing at the same time.
