One of the leading disciples of Pandit Vishnu Digambar Paluskar, Narayanrao G. Vyas represented the Paluskar tradition within the Gwalior gharana. Endowed with a mellifluous, high-pitched voice, he sang with both ease and felicity.
Narayanarao G. Vyas captivated listeners with his well-knit khayals and meditative Bhajans. The distinguishing features of his singing were a clear rendering of the text of the composition, soulful alap, bol-bant and fast-flowing tanas. He was a very popular artiste and had the distinction of recording more than one hundred 78-rpm dises.
Naryanarao G. Vyas was honoured with the Sangeet Natak Akademi Award in 1976 and the Tansen samman in 1977.
