About the Artiste:

Smt. Malini Rajurkar is one of the most respected and erudite vocalists of Hindustani Music. Gifted with one of the most outstanding voices, she has created a special niche for herself as a performer with deep respect for tradition, combined with individual artistic expression. The timbre of her voice is one of the best heard in India, perhaps the world. It is large, rich, golden, and utterly musical.

Smt. Malini Rajurkar was born in 1941. She grew up in Rajasthan, finishing her Sanger Nipun from Ajmer Music College. She studied music under the guidance of her father – in – law Pt. Govindrao Rajurkar and husband Pt. Vasantrao Rajurkar, himself a great musicologist and music educationist. She was influenced by musicologist K.G. Ginde, Pt. Jitendra Abhisheki and Pt. Kumar Gandharva. She is known as an artiste of the Gwalior school with a difference. She is an artiste with a rare gift of humility and utter devotion to her art. She has never sought fame and the trappings and milestones of commercial success. This aspect of her being shines through her music as purity. ,p> Her khayal style is riveting, energetic and musical. Her voice is as nimble as it is rich. But is in Tappa that her genius stands out. She is one of the most unique and unparalleled performers of this genre. The speed, the intricacies and most of the aesthetics of this esoteric form have been internalized by her in such a fetching manner that she will remain one of the most memorable masters of Tappa for all time to come.
