Son of the Padma Shri Pandit Vinayachandra Maudgalya, founder principal of Delhi’s Gandharava Mahavidyalaya, Madhup Mudgal is one of the best known Indian classical vocalists the present generation.
Madhup Mudgal has also had the good fortune of coming under the tutelage of great maestros of Hindustani music such as Shri Vasant Thakar, Pandit Jasraj and the celebrated Pandit kumar Gandharva.
Madhup Mudgal holds an M.Phil degree from the University of Delhi for his research in the structure of Khayal. His creative search has led him to experiment with various musical forms, and for many years he has been the conductor of the Gandharva Choir, a renowned music group that has given performances all over the world.
Madhup Mudgal has won acclaim not only for his sonorous voice and individual technique but also for the numerous music compositions to his credit. He has trained a number of students who are making their mark in the performance arena. Today, he heads the Gandharava Mahavidyalaya. He received the prestigious Padma Shri award from the President of India for his contribution to the field of Hindustani music.
