There are various alleged origins attributed to the Deepavali festival. Some hold that they celebrate the marriage of Lakshmi with Lord Vishnu. It also commemorates that blessed day on which the triumphant Lord Rama returned to Ayodhya after defeating Ravana, but all agree that on this day, Sri Krishna killed the great demon, Narakasura. This classic devotional film dramatizes the complex story of the transcendental appearance and unusual slaying of that great demon.
Lord Varaha, the Boar incarnation, is most famous for liberating Hiranyaksha, but His appearance includes many pastimes including His marriage to Bhumidevi, the personification of the earth. She is promised to become Krishna’s queen in her next birth.
Lord Shiva benedicts Narakasura that he can only be killed by one person - his own mother. Little does he know that he will be subject to that curse in his mother’s next life.
