Zanjeer is redemption plot par excellence with the raw angst of Amitabh lighting up the big-screen. Indian cinema gets its new prototype of a hero who stand up against severe atrocities to emerge triumphant against all odds.
Vijay as an adolescent loses his family to Taja (Ajit), an underworld don and crosses swords with him as an inspector several years later not knowing that it is the same man who had slaughtered his loved ones years ago. With the help of Sher Khan (Pran) and a brilliant Jaya Bhaduri as knife sharpener Mala, Vijay manages to gain lost territory and right the wrongs done to him.
Prakash Mehra (Director) has managed to draw an inspired performance from all especially Amitabh Bachchan. The film has several memorable scenes including the police station scene between Amitabh and Pran besides several others that stay with you long after the film.
The film deservedly won the prestigious Filmfare awards for Best Story, Screenplay, Lyrics and Editing.
