In ‘Sankirtan’ a person continuously thinks of God and he attains a state of supreme happiness. In this state of supreme happiness, a person forgets all his pains and troubles. Thus it can be said that, in a way, up to a certain limit, ‘Sankirtan’ helps a person get rid of all his mental and physical trobles. ‘Sankirtan’ beings a person closer to God and reverts his attention back to God. In this way ‘Sankirtan’ helps in keeping both mental as well as physical health.

Music Therapy is an attempt to purify the body, mind and soul and thus help cure ailments through the medium of music. The successes rate may vary from person to person depending on one’s faith in this medium.

In Kirtan a person chants god’s name in form of couplets (HYMN’S) accompanied by music. Sankirtan sung along with a group. It’s holy names are generally set to Classical music, but sometimes it is also based on Folk music. In such type of saining singing God’ name in chanted in a very forceful and loud voice. The rhythm of singing is either slow or very fast. Sankirtan is also a mantra. It is known as Sankirtan Mantra. While Mantra a person chants slowly and repents God’s name is his heart. On the other hand in Sankirtan, God’s name is chanted with others in a group in the form of a couplet either very slowly or in a very loud voice.

Sankirtan can be done for as along as you wish. The more you practice the more benefit you will derive from it but it has to be chanted in the form of a couplet for at least 108 times.

This Group Sankirtan is also called as Naam Sankirtan, When a person sings Sankirtan accompanied to the beats of cymbals, then due to the friction of hands being stuck together a special kind of energy flows through one’s senses which in turn is distributed to every part of the body. This helps in keeping the body fit. In Sankirtann a person continuously thinks of god and he attains a state of supreme happiness. Be accompanied in this state of supreme happiness a person forgets all his this state of supreme happiness a person forgets all his pains and troubles. Thus it can be said in a way that up to a limit Sankirtan helps a person get rid of all his mental and physical troubles Sankirtan brings a person closer to God and reverts his attention back to God. In this way Sankirtan helps in keeping both mental as well as physical health, and above all in Kalyuga the continuous chanting of the holy name of HARI is the only away to attain MOKSHA it is necessary that Sankirtan should be accompanied by Pakhavai, Harmonium, Manjiraas and some string musical instrument like Veena or Sitar.

Pt. Ajay Pohankar is acclaimed as one of the most creative artists of today. Pt. Ajay Pohankar started his journey as a classical vocalist at a tender age of 10 years. His maiden performance in the prestigious Pt. Sawal Gandhava Music Festival at Pune led many renounced artists to acknowledge arrival of a child prodigy.

Pt. Ajay Phhankar has painstakingly and consciously developed a style of his own over the years. Groomed by his illstius mother Dr. Mrs. Sushilla Pohankar representing the Gwalior ans Kirana gharana, is self a renowed music scholar. Ajay has honed his talent by deep thinking of his own, which reflects in his highly imaginative performances. An amazingly complex yet aesthetically well structured presentation of sargam, a cultivated and rich voice with full command over modulation, transports the listeners rapturously over a wide range of emotions. Listening to Pt. Pohankar, at his best is truly a transcendental experience. Pt. Ajay Pohankar, who is M.A. (English), And M.A. (Music), at present is a lecturer of music in Bombay University. He performed in Conference in Calcutta along with stalwarts like the late Pt. Omkarnath Thakur, ustad Salamat Ali and Nazakat Ali of Pakistan, Pt Ravishankar and Pt. Bhimsen Joshi. When he was just 12 years of age and his performance led a leding critic to comment “This spark will light a torch to carry classical music performances of great heights.”
