A strong sensual element runs through the early Indian art, literature and folk tradition and express itself in various forms. Indian art has been from the beginning, quite frank and forthright in the depiction of female charms and there has been no inhibition in delineating female nudity.

This painting shows the tryst of a prince with wine and women. Seated amidst youthful females with swelling bosoms, broad hips and with eschewed nudity, the prince is wearing a rich jama with a sash, jewellery like pearl strings, amulets and a kalgi atop his elaborate turban. He is in the process of unclothing the woman seated in his lap, as she looks towards the fully clothed woman who has just arrived. The two women seated on either side of the couple wear jewellery on their bodies and diaphanous odhinis, neither of which can conceal their overwhelming youth.

Numerous trays with wine caskets and cups suggest wine has been flowing freely. The women are as drunk on wine as the man is drunk on their curvaceous bodies. Peacock, symbols of erotic love strut around. A part of the background shows the interior of the rooms through heavy, silk drapery. The other half has a small pond with fountains running and small birds flitting around it. Beyond that is foliage of various kinds and distant vistas.

The artist has used vibrant colours that add to the colourful theme of the painting. They also reflect the opulence and ostentation of the scenario.
