Painting is the result of giving vent to one's artistic creativity and translating one's fantasies in a visual form. The miniature painting tradition in medieval India is replete with visual references to love, both outside and within marriage.

In an aristocratic setting sits a couple where the man is trying to win over his coy beloved and has almost succeeded. He appears to have started his persuasion by gently drawing her to him with his hands placed over her shoulders. Her resistance seems to have melted at his touch. His pleading eyes compel her to respond to his overtures. The artist has used the expressive eyes and the movement of the hands of the loving couple to indicate their mutual submission.

The man is seated against a huge bolster with his legs bent inwards. He is wearing a long ankle length 'angrakha.' A relatively long and narrow sash serves a girdle. The woman sits with partially crossed legs, wearing a short choli and a transparent open skirt which is sewn to it and opens in the front. The tight trousers worn under the dress, going from the waist down to the ankles are made of smooth embroidered material. She has a delicate, round face with sharp features.

The foreground is uncluttered with a fruit bowl and a pillow lying on the carpet. The background has a lake not only with a boat in it but a recreational palace in the middle of it. Beyond the lake are gentle hills with trees and shrubs. The effect of the night sky has been achieved with the help of gold pigment and black shade with numerous tones in between. A wonder that a small miniature has well connected architecture, landscape and figures in close harmony.
