Lord Vinayaka is the Supreme Reality who is beautiful eternal & the endower of joy & glory to those who worship him. He is considered the remover of obstacle, god of wisdom & wealth, along with being the scribe of Vyasa muni's Mahabharata.
Vyasa had mentally composed a vast poem & was in a quest for a scribe who could record it. Brahma advised him to seek Ganesha to be the scribe. Ganesha accepted on condition that the movement of his stylus not be interrupted even once. Vyasa in turn asked him not to record anything before understanding it perfectly. After having placed the sacred symbol OM on the top of the manuscript Ganesha wrote the Mahabharata, the largest epic the world has ever known, at the speed of lightening.
Seated cross-legged with the book on a small stool, Ganesha here is represented with four arms .He holds his attributes in the hind hands & utilizes the other two to hold the manuscript & write. He wears a beautiful tapering crown, a yellow loincloth & a green scarf. The large ears & trunk are true to an elephants feature but the eyes are human in aspect They are slanting in shape & full of concentration, as he knows he has a difficult task ahead .The marathon job does not deter him from enjoying his favourite sweetmeat, the modaka, which he here holds in the curve of his trunk .The tiny mouse in the foreground partakes the same.
The shading in the background gives the picture a very ethereal effect with the yellow aura behind Ganesha's head stating his divine status.
