Our humble effort is that right from beginning to the University level, all the Ragas are taken up and at least two compositions in each are treated. Some compositions are also given in other Talas other than Teen Tala which is popularly played on Sitar.
Besides this, the lessons to practice the different Alankars is also taken up in the style of my Guru ji Pt. Ravi Shankar ji. The Ragas in all the ten prevalent Thaatas are categorised accordingly.
This effort of us (me and my daughter Dr. Alka Nagpal) to present instrumental compositions is to bring it for the benefit of those students who are interested in learning Sitar.
We are thankful to all who have helped us in any way in this venture of ours.
The compositions performed on any instrument is always duly composed, keeping in view the playing technique of the instrument. Our effort is to present such compositions which suit the instrument in general with special emphasis on sitar.
The ragas covered in this book belong to five thatas only. In some of the ragas more than two compositions are given to enable the student to have a more clear picture of the raga.
Some of the patterns which help the student in practising as well as forming the tana are also described. We hope this venture of ours will be quite useful to a student of a sitar.
