From time immemorial India has been known for Cultural awareness as well as a deep respect for the fundamental human values that have played a vital role in the making and shaping of India as a great nation. The rich spiritual heritage that existed in the past still seems to be flowing like the Ganges and making Indian soil pious and fertile for a universal civilization. Even though half of our population is reeling under the extremes of poverty, their high sense of spirituality and intellectual fervour make their lives sublime and superior. In the midst of scientific and technological development where there is little respect for humanity and morality, the spiritual awareness of the Indian people has certainly made them unique in many ways altogether.
India has been the country of Yogis and Rishis who have been engaged in sadhana in order to bring a spiritual light into this world for dispelling the darkness of ignorance and miseries. They have involved themselves in tapasya or austerity willingly for realizing the very existence of Supreme Power which controls and continues everything in the universe. The realization of Brahman is the ultimate aim of human life that ends all worldly desires, pursuits and predicament. But renunciation of worldly pleasures is a herculean task for common man. Our country is fortunate enough to have such yogis and rishis who have been bestowed with perfect celestial and sublime voices by which they offer their prayers to God, and in return, blessed with realization of divinity.
The modern world has turned into a big armed camp piled up with weapons of mass destruction waiting for a match to be set ablaze. Many philosophers, thinkers and scientists think that the world has reached a point where world-wide destruction could take place at any moment. It is beyond doubt that any future war will result in total annihilation of our civilization within a few minutes. Professor C.E.M. Joad, an eminent British thinker mockingly writes in his essay 'Our Own Civilization' that 'in the next (third) war man will fight with atom bombs and in the war after that with bows and arrows. It has, now, become the most pressing duty of dedicated politicians, heads of nations, scientists and enlightened persons to come for- ward to save this beautiful planet from a tragic end caused by atomic and chemical weapons. They should also find ways to avoid the increasing danger of pollution, global warming, natural disasters noting that all these factors worked together to bring forth some mysterious viral pandemic (covid-19) that snatched about 60 lac lives out of 48 crore infected people all over the world, and poverty-stricken India has now become the country with the second largest number of people infected with the Corona virus after the United States.
