Patanjali's Yoga Sutras, which contain a wisdom beyond space and time were written about 2600 years ago and they condense the yogic tradition which existed 3000 years before his time. It is due to Pantanjali that Yoga is considered as one of the six major schools of thought from ancient India. The Yoga Sutras are non- theistic and the path to liberation is purely through personal effort.
The present translation with commentary is different as it specifically highlights the scientific aspect of Patanjali's work and is written without any religious and mystical tints. The Sutras are translated in an easily understandable language, with sketches and tables. A chapter on the Indian tradition in the context of yoga is also included. The last chapter reviews the terminology and concepts discussed in the Yoga Sutras. A glossary of all the Sanskrit words is an additional asset of the book.
