Consciousness is the great unexplored area of life, the final frontier. It is the invisible but essential ingredient that even science approaches with fear and trembling. Yet one ancient philosophy has explored it completely and that philosophy, and Consciousness Itself, are the subject of this book.
Kashmir Shaivism is the study of Consciousness. Since Consciousness is infinite, so our study is without limits. Notice that I didn't say, 'human consciousness'. Consciousness is one no matter where we find it, though its personalities are many. Look at your pet, your dog or cat. A pet lover feels that there is a conscious being there, somehow overlayed by catness' or 'dogness'.
Years ago one devotee of my Guru wept pathetically to me that his dog was not allowed in the ashram in India. He said, 'He's a human being in a dog's body!"
I said, 'Richard, we all are".
