As we stand at the threshold of commemorating seven and a half decades of freedom, it's imperative to embark on a journey of introspection, reflecting on the transformational voyage India has undertaken since gaining independence in 1947. This book is a testament to that introspection.
In the annals of history, 75 years may seem like a mere blink of an eye, but within this timeframe, India has traversed a remarkable path of evolution, marked by moments of triumph, challenges, and profound societal changes. From the euphoria of newfound freedom to the trials of nation-building, India's journey has been one of resilience, determination, and growth.
This book encapsulates the essence of this journey, offering a comprehensive assessment of the social relevance and utility of the mechanisms through which our nation functions. It delves into the intricate tapestry of governance, policy frameworks, and socioeconomic developments that have shaped the Indian landscape over the decades. At its core, this book serves as a critical exploration. of governance and development, scrutinizing the efficacy of policies, the responsiveness of institutions, and the inclusivity of progress. It seeks to unravel. the complexities of India's democratic experiment, examining both its successes and shortcomings with a discerning eye.
This book edited by Varun Chhachhar and Swikar Sankrit covers the whole transformation of 75 years of Indian Independence and the developments that took place during the era. This edited book covers comprehensive assessment of the social relevance and utility of the ways in which the system works in practice. The book deals with different chapters that explain the reflection and effects of various policies which existed or are in existence since the independence. It is also important to understand that this edited volume contains a journey of freedom of speech and expression through lens of right to know jurisprudence. The very first chapter elaborates the whole conceptual note on transformation of freedom of speech and expression.
The book covers another interesting theme of Environment Law in India by the virtue of environmental jurisprudence and legislative developments that took place in eighties and nineties. This chapter describes the journey of sustainable development through the development of environmental activism in India. Another important aspect this book covers is the biggest tax reform since independence GST that paved the way for realization of the goal of One Nation One Tax - One Market. It gave a boost to the economy making the products and services globally competitive, giving a major boost to 'Make in India' initiative. Another paper in this edited volume is on Gram Swaraj an idea of the self-reliant village is a unique concept of rural reconstruction proposed by Mahatma Gandhi much before India's independence that he developed over a period of time. However, Gram Swaraj is considered an ideal development approach, yet Indian planners and policymakers emphasised economic development over an individual's moral and ethical values after independence.
