Yamuna, The legendary river inseperably attached to the Krishna-lore as also to the majesty of Delhi. Is the river older than even Ganga? What are its chief topographical characteristics? This book throws enough light to suggest answer to these questions with logical interpretations, alongwith the translation into Hindi and English of the popular poems, songs dedicated to this river of love.
Dr. B.K. Chaturvedi born in a village, Holipura (Agra, U.P.) on 3rd August 1945, in a reputed family, he had his education in Allahabad (M.Sc.) and Bangalore. Having served for a couple of years in HMT, he is now a free- lance author, journalist and poet based in New Delhi for about two decades.
He has many articles/poems/books published in both Hindi and English to his credit. among them is a mattered verse-translation in English the famous epic of modern Hindi: KAMAYANI. He has also rendered "Srimadbhagawat Gita' and 'Sriramcharitamanas' into English. A prolific writer, he often writes for TV and Radio.
Writing a book on the river Yamuna has been a nostalgic journey down the memory-lane for the author who was bred and brought up in the region of this holy river. Hence most of the descriptions in the book about Yamuna's course and nature have resulted out of his first hand experience. Besides giving all the details, the attempt has been to make the discerning readership get something to think over independently. For many questions concerning Yamuna remain still unanswered. The most burning question in this regard is the termination point of its course before the advent of the celestial river, Ganga, which is unanimously accepted to be junior to Yamuna in its mortal age. It must be made clear at the very outset that this is mot a book on Yamuna churned out to attract only tourists from abroad but a book which tries to rivet their attention to the very thought process that deifies the rivers in our country.
