Foreword
Unawares, Swami Vivekananda very often said things that startled his audience. He said them casually, carelessly, without any thought about the impact that they might produce. What he said might be simple truths, but it is these simple truths spoken with authority and coming spontaneously from a world teacher, that disturb you most. They remind you of your present limitations and of the great heights to which you might yet rise. They shake you to your roots, sweeping away all the depression you have allowed to accumulate over the years and releasing within you new sources of energy which carry you forward.

It is some of such utterances by Swami Vivekananda which Prof. Govinda Gopal Mukherjee, with the assistance of two research assistants, working under him, Madhabi Sinha and Parna Mukherjee, has picked up from among Swamiji's speeches and writings from The Complete Works of Swami Vivekananda, published by Advaita Ashrama, Mayavati which this little book presents to the readers. While reading the utterances the readers may experience the same kind of electric shock which Romain Rolland experienced when he first read Swamiji.
