Book Description
About the Book
The book written by Dr. Om Raj Singh Vishnoi is quite informative and readable. The association of the author with Police Training for more than a decade including several Gender Sensitisation training programmes for the police personnel of various levels has in fact provided distinct insights and vision to the author which have been, in a way. crystallised into the pages of this title. The broad. spectrum of the topics covered include: the genesis and expansion of women police in India and ebread: earlier inhibitions, and entry of women in the male dominion of police system, mode of appointment, training: duties being handled by them: new social dimensions of their duties: problems and prospects. The history of police establishment in different countries of the world reveals great variations in the employment of women in policing. All over the world women had to struggle hard, to make a breakthrough into police. This story has a global implications as everywhere women entry in police was not smooth and had to face lot of oppositions and criticism. However, USA took the lead in making use of women in law enforcement. The author traces the entry of women in Indian police way back to 1938 when in Kanpur (in UP). there arose a peculiar situation of labour strike in a factory which forced to recruit women in police for the first time.

Dr. Vishnoi contends that women, by temperament, are more suitable than men for handling situations that confront the police system today. It has appropriately been drawn by the learned author that the police profession is undergoing a facelift, by becoming responsive to the changing situation of the country. It is moving towards a service- oriented goal with broadening of its rule, so far restricted to enforcement of law and order.

I believe, this book will certainly encourage the readers and provide information related to police relationship with public and people's perception about them today I wish that the book will provide you the relevant Information about the police and will be very useful to policemen police women, researchers, social workers, functionaries of non government organisations and Jaymen.
