After graduation, Subash Mazumdar went to the USA for postgraduate studies and then joined the United Nations (UN). As a U. N. official, he travelled all over the world. He lived outside India for 35 years till 1984. He finally settled down in Pune. Even while abroad, he never lost touch with Indian Culture, particularly the literature of the epics and the puranas.

Along with his wife Anjani, he took great delight in reading out the Mahabharata and the Ramayana to their three daughters, Roma, Mona and Sheeba. Out of this stimulating experience grew his interest in and appreciation of the various characters in the epics and the values they represented.

Subash's association with the Bhavan began in 1988. The Bhavan published his first book Who is Who in the Mahabharata. It was released by the late Shankar Dayal Sharma, former President of India. On that occasion Shri Subash announced a scholarship to budding writers. The Bhavan also published some of his books: Mahabharata is Believable and Tales from Puranas. All the books sold well.

Shri Subash was well known for his bonhomie. His kindness and cheerful nature impressed all those who came close to him. He had a lucid style of writing. He tried to be correct and precise in all that he wrote.

Subash passed away in 2019 at the age of 90. At the time of his death, this book was in its final stage of preparation.
