"The ego can never correct itself. Therefore, all attempts to self-correction fail Therefore, SELF-HELP IS A STUPID PHRASE The ego is not at all capable of helping itself The ego itself arises from a wrong choice How will one wrong choice help you correct your other wrong choices? Therefore, the choice is never the betterment or refinement of ego.
The method is always the surrender of ego".
"If you're looking for self-help, why would you read a book by someone else?"
Do self-help books (SHBS) really help? They are very popular and quite a number of them are bestsellers as well. Thousands of titles are available and new ones enter the market every day. In fact, the self-help world has been alive for over a century and had been a billion-dollar industry for over a decade. As per some reports, it's worth about $10 billion per year in the U.S.A. alone. It is also reportedly expected to register @ 5.6% average yearly gains until 2022.
One school of thought is that it is counterintuitive to seek others' help to help ourselves (see the quote above). The meaning of self-help, as per the dictionary, is the act of helping or bettering oneself without the aid of others. That is, with one's own efforts.
