The Way of Hermits explores the life of Prasanna Devi (1934-2023) who was a unique hermit in India. Born in a traditional Christian family of Kerala, she settled in the jungle of Girnar in Gujarat where she was highly revered by Hindus. To all, Prasanna Devi gave the darshan, the very manifestation of the divine, an indescribable light that one could contemplate on her radiant face. Such a singular spiritual journey was made possible by the constant encouragement and advice of the Benedictine monk Dominique Van Rolleghem (1904-1995), her spiritual father and guru. It is this fascinating link between two seekers of the Absolute that is revealed, for the first time, here in the letters of Father Dominic who guided Prasanna Devi on her pilgrimage to the Unknown.
"The spiritual relationship of guru and disciple, Father Dominic Van Rolleghem and Prasanna Devi, as expressed in their correspondence is a unique testimony of the depth of the life of two hermits, both exceptional beings committed to their absolute goal. Remaining hidden by the very fact of their vocation, they here radiate out to sensitive readers in search of a spirituality bridging the two traditions of Hinduism and Christianity. I have known both people intimately and can testify to the authenticity and radiance of their lives. May this collection of letters inspire those in search of peace and divinity."
