Book Description
About The Book

Far from home and loved ones, these heroes sacrifice their own lives so the entire nation can sleep in peace. The stories of their courage and passion are larger than life. Army heroes - they are legends whose tales will not just make your chests swell with pride, but whose sacrifices will leave your eyes a little moist. Far from home and loved ones, these heroes sacrifice their own lives so the entire nation can sleep in peace. The stories of their courage and passion are larger than life. Army heroes-they are legends whose tales will not just make your chests swell with pride, but whose sacrifices will leave your eyes a little moist. The Kargil war is one of the most recent examples of high altitude warfare in mountainous terrain. This was only the second direct ground war between any two countries after they had developed nuclear weapons, after the Sino-Soviet border conflict of 1969. In five decades since India's Independence, the Indian soldier has repeatedly made the supreme sacrifice. India owes an immeasurable debt to the untold thousands of soldiers who have died uncelebrated in her service. The 21 recipients of the Param Vir Chakra are the few acknowledged symbols of the unknown soldiers and their many exceptional acts of courage and sacrifice. A wilful act of self-sacrifice performed as an act of duty can only come from a tremendous training in character. This is a major work of historical research. It will be indispensable to historians and sociologists, as well as to students and the Indian army.
