India is a country that has diverse sections of society. Some of these sections enjoy the privileges but many suffer due to the exploitation and ignorance. These suffering groups are called vulnerable groups. Vulnerability is "proneness to harm or damage originating from external causes." Simply stated, vulnerable groups, are those parts of the population who are more likely to suffer as a result of a faulty or unjust system, whether that system is social, political, cultural, economic, physical, family-based, environmental, or any other factor.
A few of the groups in India that might be categorized as vulnerable sections are children, women, scheduled castes, scheduled tribes, other backward classes, minorities, senior citizens, disabled people, LGBT communities, etc.
This edited book is an endeavour to cover the situation of the vulnerable groups in an academic manner. The chapters of the book are analyses done by learned writers on the conditions of vulnerable groups in Indian society in different contexts.
The book not only provides status of the vulnerable groups but also suggests the remedial measures.
