Even a simple translation of such books may not suffice, because quite often the relation between one verse and the nest one is not obvious. Swami Ramanujananda has circumvented this difficulty by framing a question before each translated verse. Thus each verse becomes the answer to a question. By cleverly manipulating the questions he is able to establish a logical sequence among the verses.
Sri. Ramakrishna Math Trissur had published a small but enlightening book for our spiritually kindled readers entitled QUEST FOR KNOWLEDGE last year. The readers should naturally feel the QUEST FOR MONISM as all quests cease only by realising MONISM. So, now, we are happy to publish QUEST FORMONISM by Swami Ramanujanandaji, sister-volume of QUEST FOR KNOWLEDGE for our readers.
We are fortunate to have been born in this blessed land, ‘the punyabhumi’, where the thirst for knowledge had been quenched completely by our great spiritual leaders, the Rishis. The study and practice of Quest for Monism, le, Vivekachudamani, will surely lead one to the realisation of non-dualism or advaita which is the end of all human struggle and quest for freedom. Being the followers of the great visionaries, it is our moral responsibility :o make use of the precious treasure of spirituality that they have bequeathed to us, Swamiji wrote ‘Vivekachudamani’ with this aim in a very simple and comprehensible language and texture.
We extend our sincere thanks to Swami Ramanujanandaji and his friends who assisted him in bringing out such an enlightening work for the liberation of the whole humanity.
We all know that young men are restless. There is no use in blaming them; if proper guidance is given, they improve. Unfortunately, very few elders are ready to give guidance to the youth. So, this author wrote QUEST FOR KNOWLEDGE (Gita for Beginners) hoping that it would be useful to the youth.
Readers were kind enough to record their appreciation of that book. Elders, teachers, students, youngsters - all of them suggested to this author that more texts are to be simplified for their benefit. But one has to admit that simplification of a great book is a difficult task. Anyhow, the author has made an attempt to simplify the Vivekachudamani. Now it is the readers who can tell whether the author has succeeded in this venture. The book QUEST FOR MONISM (Vivekachudamani for Beginners) is in their hands.
Swami Swahanandaji (Head of Vedanta Society, Hollywood) and Swami Dayatmanandaji (Head of Ramakrishna Vedanta Centre, Bourne End) have given encouragement to this author in his literary pursuits. Also, they have contributed towards printing of this book, which otherwise would not have been possible.
Shri. P.R. Parameswara Kurup has always been a help. Shri. Praveen Panicker has given his assistance in every stage -in getting the manuscript ready and in getting the book printed. Swami Shakranandaji has taken the responsibility of publishing. We are grateful to all those who have helped us directly or indirectly in bringing out this work. If readers, young men in particular find interest in knowing our spiritual heritage, the author would deem that his labour is amply rewarded.
