This great text on Vedanta is attributed to Bhagawan Shankaracharya. Such compositions are called Prakarana Grantha or the book of catagories. It deals exhaustively almost all the aspects of study and practice of Vedanta for attainment of Self realization. The big volume of the book is due to the poetic and the literary genius that the author was. In addition to the subject matter many examples conveying the principle and the doctrine of Vedanta makes it an essential introductory text for the subsequent study of prasthana trayee (Gita, Upanishads and Bramha sutra)
This text was taken up for studies during my ‘Vedanta for Excellence in Life’ course offered at Kaivalyadhama, Lonavla during 2007. The student inspired me to prepare this handy topic wise translation of the entire text. It is advised that while listening to the discourses on this text from the MP3 cds a copy of this translation and the original text will be a great help in the understanding of the subject matter.
The tedious job of taking the dictation, compilation and proof reading was done by Usha, Seema and Sujata who deserve my special gratitude.
