Sister Nivedita's role in Indian Renaissance of the early 20th century as well as her contribution to freedom movements- remains unrecognized till this late date; and we regard her largely as a foreigner interested in Hindu religion. In the words of Ananda K. Coomaraswamy, she "became not merely an interpreter of India to Europe, but even more, the inspiration of a new race of Indian students, no longer anxious to be Anglicized, but convinced that all real progress must be based on national ideals". She actively worked to promote and energise freedom movements, and to serve the purpose, left even the Ramakrishna Mission.
Her studies of Hindu religion and the life-system organized on its basis, are also remarkable, as well as quite detailed. Being comparative, they are easy to distinguish and understand. Some of such writings are presented here in a different editorial set up to mark the salient points clearly and visibly.
