The V Volume of Guntur Kaifiyats contains 56 Kaifiyats of Villages in the Guntur District beginning with the village Annavaram. With this volume publication of all the available Kaifiyats pertaining to the Guntur District has been completed. It is not known whether some more Kaifiyats pertaining to the Guntur District still remain, to be copied either at the Madras Oriental Manuscripts Library or in the India Office Library. London. Before making a search for the remaining Kaifiyats, I thought it is better to publish all the available Kaifiyats previously copied by the State Archives Department.
In the task of copying the manuscripts Sri M. Muniratnam. Sri S. Md. Anwar-ul Haq, and Sri E. Hanuma Sastry have done an excellent job for whom myself and the future researchers shall ever be beholden. My thanks are also due to Dr. P. Krishna Murthy, Assistant Director, Incharge of Publications, and Sri Akkidas John who worked hard in correcting the Eproofs and also arranging to prir the volumes in a short time. I am also thankful to Sri Padmavati Art! rinters and its proprietor, Sri P. Srinivas for printing the volumes very neatly and in the quickest possible time. I also acknowledge my grateful thanks to Sri K. Eshwar Kumar. Hon'ble Minister for Technical Education and Archives and Dr. R.V. Vaidyanatha Ayyar, I A.S.. Secretary to Government, Edu-cation Department for their constant support and encouragement.
Following the pattern similar to Volume-IV, some of the important Kaifiyats in this volume which are found to be useful for historical research have been translated almost fully into English, for the benefit of those whose mother tongue is not Telugu, and some which contain mere mehtion of some rudimentary historical events and repetitions are omit-ted However the introduction will provide a detailed account of many of the important Kaifiyats.
