The Ramalingesvara and the Venkataramana temples at Taḍapatri, Ananthapur District of Andhra Pradesh are the best examples of Vijayanagara art and architecture. The present book aims to study art history of the temples. The study is based on the field survey.
The present volume provides historical background, epigraphical evidences and the Taḍapatri khaifiyat to reconstruct the history of Tāḍa patri. The growth of the village in the pre-Vijayanagara period is traced. The involvement of Pemmasani family, an important Nayaka family of the Vijayanagara period is studied, for they were associated with the construction of the Ramalingesvara and the Venkataramana temples. The history of Taḍapatri since the Qutub shahi occupation to the East India Company rule is outlined.
Dr. V. Jayaprada obtained her Master Degree in 1978 and Ph.D in 1990 from Nagarjuna University, Nagarjuna Nagar. From 1981 to 1983 she worked as a Pottery Assistant in Srisailam Excavation Project. Since 1983 she has been working as a Guide Lecturer (Museum Incharge) in Bauddha Sree Archaeological Museum, Guntur under the control of the Department of Archaeology & Museums, Hyderabad. She is a member of Indian History Congress, Andhra Pradesh History Congress and Museums Associations of India.
