The Book demonstrates very will the sorts of parallels to be found between the guru Granth sahib and the Vaisnava texts. This should prove valuable for devotees. You have rendered a good service.
The Book is also nicely designed.
I dedicate this book to my beloved spiritual master His Holiness Gopal Krishna Goswami maharaj ji. On the auspicious occasion of his 63rd appearance day. Guru Mahraj ji always inspired and appearance day. Guru Maharaj ji always inspired and encouraged me to write about the Vaishnava teachings in Sikhism.
Born in a sikh family I used to read ‘ The Granth sahib’ religiously since childhood; no better than a parrot reading without fathoming the depth of it. Truly said by the Lord Himself; Without the mercy of a True Guru one Cannot have the realisation.”
The Quest to search for the Supreme Power lead me to the shelter of Srila Prabhvupada who being munificient blessed we with my Guru Mahraj ji who steered me through thick and thin. His affection and gave me the courage to indulge in presenting before all of You the similarities in the verses from Sri Guru Granth sahib and Srimad Bhagavatam, Bhagavad Gita and chaitanya Caritamrta.
It is an endeavour to help in the preaching mission of srila Prabhupada; to awaken the ‘sleeping’ world. I is a small attempt on my part to help the preachers to enlighten the suffering masses through these quoted verses.
These scriptures are the ocean of Knowledge. It is was extremely difficult for me to pen down in limited pages. I o could have gone on and on as these are the “words of eternal bliss”. For any discrepancy I beg forgiveness.
I thank Sri Sri Gaura Nitai for guiding me; I thank Sri Sri Krsna Balram for giving me the strength to compile these verses and I thank ? Sri Sri Rdha shaymsundar for blessing me with wisdom to accomplish this gigantic task. In the words of guru Nanak dev ji ‘’ Guru sevay tay thakur jaanay” meaning; Thakur reveals Himself to only those who serve their Guru One rely’s totally on the mercy of the Guru to attain the love of Sri Krishna.
Deeply convinced by these words I pray to my Guru Maharaj Ji to please accept my small service and grant me his mercy always.
I pray to Guru Nanak dev ji, Srila Prabhupada, Guru Maharaj Ji to bless me with determination and faith in following the ‘path of devotion’. I ask for mercy of all the Vaishnavas who are most dear to the Supreme Lord; for me to serve my guru Maharaj ji eternally.
Srila Prabhupada in his meeting with Yogi Harbhajan in June 1975 in Hawaii discussed the topic of Sikhism and among many other things, said,” Understanding God is for the perfect, not for the common man. Acaryopasanam: the common man should accept the perfect spiritual teachers. For instance, the Sikhs should follow Guru Nanak Guru Nanak says, “yes, Kanea is God. So they should accept, that’s all. Not that Sikh is excepted to be as perfect as guru Nanak. It is not excepted that that every sikh will Understand Kanea. But they should follow Guru Nanak – hen they’ll understand. Maharajano yena gtau sa pantahau; the paths the great spiritual teachers have shown – these a paths will show us the way. All the great spiritual teachers – they accept Kanesa. So we have to follow-, otherwise, what will we understand? We must follow the great spiritual teachers. “ Srila Prabhupada had high regard s for Guru Nanak. In his lecture in Atlanta on March 2, 1975 , he said, “ Guru Nanak he chanted the name , holy name of rama , the holy name of Kanea, Govinda. So it we follow Guru Nanak Fortune.” The certainly shows that all spiritual teachers have clear understanding of the Supreme absolute truth. As enunciated in Guru Granth sahib, guru Nanak has clearly stressed on canting the holy names and talking shelter of a Guru in order to make progress in spiritual life. The same teaching have been given in the vedic texts. For instance, regarding the cleansing of heart guru Nanak dev ji says in jap ji sahib:
Bhariye Hath pair tan dayh. Pane dhoai utras khyah, moot paleeteekaparh ho ayy, dahay saaboon laee-ai oh dhoay, bharee-ai mat papa kai sang, oh dhopai navaai kai rang, punee paapee aakhan naahi;
Kar kar karma likh lai jaahu; aapay beej aapay khaahu; Nanak humki aavhu jaahu.”
Translation: the dirt in hands, feet and body can be washed with water and if the clothes are fouled by fifth, these can be washed with soap; but if the Mind is filled with sins that can be washed only by imbibing the Lord’s name; virtue and sin I not a matter of saying , each and every action is recorded as one has to be reap what he sows Nanak says birth and death are under His (Lord’s)order. Sri Caitanya Mahapabhu sings in the very first sholoka of the only eight slokas left behind him about the cleansing of the heart. He says:
Ceto-darpaea-marjanaa bhava-maha-davangi-nirvapaeaa
Creyau-kairava- candrika—vitaraeaa vidya-vadhu- jevanam
Anandambudhi-vardhanaa prati-ada- pureamatasvadanaaa
Sarvatama-snapanaa paraa vijyate cre kanea- saikkertanam
Translation: Glory to the sri Krsna ankirtana, That cleanses the heart of all the dust accumulated for years and extinguishes the fire of conditioned life, of repeated birth and death . This sankirtana movements is the prime benediction for humanity at large because it spread the rays of the benediction moon. It is the life of all transcendental bliss and enables us to fully taste the nectar for which we are always anxious.
Radhika Krpa devi has thoroughly researched these teaching and brought to light the similarities of Sikhism vis-à-vis Vaishnavavism, thus establishing a common cord between the two pats. This book will also help the devotees preaching to Sikh community, as now they will get a better understanding of the teaching of sikhism.
Srila Prabhupada has always asked his discipline to write books that could help in preaching. I want to thank Radhika Krpa devi dasi for spending time to produce this important book. As she is a gifted writer and a good preacher, I want to encourage her to keep writings and preaching to enlighten the suffering humanity.
