About the Author Dr Poonam Choudhary is working as PhD scholar at department of prasuti tantra and stree roga, National Institute of Ayurveda, Jaipur, Rajasthan. Author has done MS (Ay) in Stree Roga and prasuti vigyan from IPGT & RA Jamnagar, Gujarat. During her study period she has meritorious student and stood first in order of merit at undergraduate and postgraduate level and obtained gold medal at her carrier.

Her articles have been published in various peer reviewed journals and she also participated in International & national seminars and delivered her valuable lectures.

Foreword Vaginal discharge is a common feature that affects all age group of women worldwide. For many women, vaginal discharge leads to significant concern and the need to seek medical advice. It is a difficult area to address in particular where the problem is recurrent or persistent and for the medical practitioner needing to make a proper diagnosis, they need to differentiate between abnormal or normal (physiological) discharge. This is the need of time to describe the disease in detail.

Introduction To know the proper etiopathogenesis and management of the disease, the knowledge of normal anatomy and physiology of concerned system is extremely essential. Here the subject Shweta pradara is related to Yoni. To understand pathology of this disease, it is necessary to understand anatomical consideration of Yoni.

Acharyas had deep knowledge of Anatomy and Physiology of female reproductive system. But they have not mentioned or devoted a single chapter on anatomy and physiology. So, one cannot find a compact reference regarding anatomy and physiology of female genitalia. However, on collecting scattered references available here and there, a gross picture emerges out.

The word "Yoni" is derived from the Sanskrit root "Yuj". Means to join or to unite which is suffixed by "Ni" to form the word "Yoni".
