Now a days the interest of people in Vastuvidya is increasing. The number of studies and articles in the subject clearly shows the return of the pleasant era of Indian traditional wisdom. Being a humble member of a fraternity who work for the rejuvenation of our traditional architecture, I am happy to appreciate Dr. Madhavan, for his efforts behind making a book on Vasthuvidya for hospitals.

I dare to write this introduction on two counts (1) My virtue of being a student of Astrology and (2) a close friend of Dr. Madhavan for more than 50 years.

It is not our exaggeration, that Dr. Madhavan, a dedicated and sympathetic Physician and Surgeon and moreover a greater humanitarian, infringing the spirit of his father, he has many beautifully synthesised the old science of Vasthu with modern hospitals and medical colleges.

The book is must-guide for every student of medicine, a medical college professor, a small clinic owner, a hospital administration and builder of medical college or hospital. So the book will be an useful reference book as well as a day to day manual for the above persons. Not but not least it should find an indispensible guide to schools of Business Administration.

I wish all success and congratulations for his endeavour in this direction.

An eager researcher can learn about the cultural heritage of any region from it's traditional architecture. Even after myriads of invasions the rich and powerful knowledge base of Indian culture is alive. The new education system caused an abrupt change in the mindset of Indian populous and they moved to western culture ignoring the traditional wisdom. But today things are changing. Even the eminent professors from west are coming to east to acquire the oldest and strongest knowledge.

As per the Indian tradition if any one wants to be the master of any specialization he should be knowledgeable in all areas of science. Especially 'STAPATHY'-The master builder shall be an expert in all works that science demands. In that aspect, the study of Vastuvidya confined to a particular division of buildings is not reasonable. For the functional design of hospitals, the service of a master architect who knows the philosophy is highly essential. But at the beginning of any project, for the preparation of the project proposal an overall knowledge will be sufficient. To prepare the proposal for a hospital, a minimum idea of vastuvidya concepts will be helpful. The book of Dr. Madhavan will be a ready reckoner for the architects working on hospital projects. The basic information needed about orienting the different functional spaces, its positions etc are explained in this book.

Today, in the era of vertical learning style, specialised texts are essential for every structure. For the design, planning and project preparation of buildings in health sector a source of authentic information is needed. Years of experience enable Dr. Madhavan to give authentic data about the functional requirements of hospitals. We have to thank him for the relentless efforts taken in collecting and compiling these valuable informations.
