All the religions and religious beliefs and practices had an effect on practical life events of people in the world and also sometimes religious beliefs had provoked religious conflict. Gandhian Sarvadharma Samabhava shows that in spite of the fact that he doesn't attach much importance to historical religious institutions, he has profound respect and reverence for all religions. How he hopes to combine rationality with religion can be well illustrated in this book.
This book constitutes both a comprehensive discussion of Gandhian religious beliefs for new comers to the subject and a clear and useful reference for those who need to an accurate description and understanding of different religions.
B.Sreenivasulu Naik (b.1983) was born and brought up in Jillellamandha Pedda Thanda Village, Chittoor district, Andhra Pradesh. He was attracted towards Gandhian ideology and became an ardent follower of the principles of Mahatma Gandhi. His love and passion for Gandhian ideals inspired him to pursue M.A Philosophy with Gandhian specialization and acquired Doctor of Philosophy in Gandhian Philosophy at the age of 29 before he joined as Assistant Professor, Department of Philosophy, S.V.University, Tirupati. He is taking active part in the struggle for the removal of Untouchability in Society. He has participated and presented papers on Gandhian Philosophy in several National and International seminars and has published a few articles in Gandhian philosophy in different National journals.
In recent times, Gandhian Philosophy is becoming a subject of debate and absorbing interest for the protagonist of politics. It is also engaging the attention of teachers, researchers, scholars and students of different branches of knowledge. During these six decades after independence, a good number of books have been published on the different aspects of Gandhian thought. But Dr.B.Sreenivasulu naik's book is a notable contribution to Gandhian philosophy on sarva dharma samabhava (comparative religion). It is characterized by deep scholarship and a remarkable understanding of the author in the field of comparative Religion. It will be of considerable help to both students as well as researchers of the subject. In its original form, it was a dissertation for the degree of doctor of philosophy in philosophy, S.V.University, Tirupati. The present book has been thoroughly revised as per the expert's advice. In its revised form, it constitutes an important contribution to Gandhian literature. I am of the opinion that this book breaks new ground of understanding both in terms of the material collected and lucidity he is able to bring to his analysis. The book has been written by the author with an in-depth understanding, and I am sure that this book will become a fundamental importance for all students and scholars of Gandhi. I am sure this book will be well received and will provide useful information on the problems of religion and interreligious dialogue from Gandhian point of view.
In the context of the writing of this book, I am deeply indebted to many scholars and friends. I am beholden to my Research Supervisor, Dr. S. Abdul Sattar, Professor and Head, Department of Philosophy, who has suggested the problem and has taken keen interest in completing the book. But for his constant encouragement, it would have been impossible to complete this work.
My I owe my profound sense of gratitude to Smt.B. Sonki Bai, my beloved mother and B. Nage Naik, my beloved father, who have ever been my well-wishers encouraging me in this endeavour. I cannot thank adequately for what I have received from them. It is a matter of great satisfaction to me that under their constant encouragement, I was able to complete writing this book. My thanks are due to my Brother-in-law, Sister, Brother, sister-in-law, nephews, nieces, to my would be wife, who have ever being my well-wishers encouraging me in this endeavour.
