There has been a steady and incessant campaign by Pakistan against India with effective use of the media and diplomacy. This has corrupted the imagination of impressionable minds in J&K and raised an architecture of violence, which some call the terror industry.

The Two Kashmirs is an attempt to compare Pakistan occupied Kashmir (PoK) with the rest of Kashmir in India. It discusses the hypothesis advanced by advocates of violence and resistance in J&K about the state being on the receiving end as far as Indian economic and developmental policies are concemed. The data is collected and analysed on the indices of development-ranging from the very basic ones like life-expectancy and literacy to healthcare and education.

Sheikh Khalid is Secretary General of international Centre for Peace Studies, ICPS, New Delhi. A Stratogy Analyst and columnist, he is also the author of widely acclaimed books, Why Article 370 Had To Go and They Snatched My Playground.

He contested the 2019 Lok Sabha elections (BJP) from the Srinagar Budgam constituency.

Before joining national politics, he worked with national and international media news bureaus for more than 10 years.

He has been a recipient of the prestigious fellowship from SFAC and participated in international conferences at the UN, Geneva. EU among others.

The inspiration to write this book comes from my unflinching interest in the politics of Jammu and Kashmir. As a journalist for decades and now as a politician I am on a learning curve constantly reflecting on the nitty gritties of the very nuanced political realities of J&K.

The Union Territory of Jammu and Kashmir (J&K)' in India has suffered the brunt of militancy and terrorism sponsored by Pakistan for more than seven decades. Pakistan's unceasing interference in the affairs of the Indian state has been based on spurious and illegitimate claims and efforts to use force and subversion as tactics to keep J&K permanently volatile and unstable. In 1947, the newly created state of Pakistan, through one of the most brazen acts of invasion and terror, unleashed a horde of marauders (known in history as tribal lashkars) on the insuspecting people of the erstwhile principality of J&K. These lashkars, enabled by regulars from Pakistan army, let loose a reign of terror and indulged in loot, arson, rape and murder.
