This work is the first large scale bibliography on the tribes of Madhya Pradesh. It puts together, in one volume, information about the material on history (A.D. 1213 to A.D. 1985), anthropology, sociology, geography, economics, genetics, literature, linguistics and folklore of the tribals of Madhya Pradesh available in Indian and foreign languages and dialects. It is a unique attempt at making available the information about valuable works of all kinds lying scattered in current as well as out-of-print and out-of-reach rare books, manuscripts, periodicals etc. in different libraries in India and abroad. About 1600 references included in this volume refer to one aspect or the other related to the tribes of Madhya Pradesh.

However, it will be of particular value for those whose concern in linguistics and anthropology. Born in 1939, Dr. H.L. Shukla got his Ph.D. in Sociology of Modern Sanskrit Literature in the year 1964. Thereafter, in 1967 he did his M.A. Linguistic and in 1974 he was honoured with Ph.D. in Linguistic Geography. An erudite scholar, he did his D.Litt. in Socio Cultural History of Tribal Bastar, in the year 1978. He has a great number of articles and books to his credit and got them published. His major field of research, in which his keen interests are widespread, covers psycho-linguistics, semiotics, socio-linguistics, ethno-semantics, stylo- linguistics, folk music and social and cultural history. His academic excellence has earned him numerous honours.
This book contains the massive collection of references to material on Tribal Heritage of Madhya Pradesh in a chrono logical order. The object of the present bibliography is to put together, in one volume, information about the material on the history (1213 A.D. to 1985 A.D.), anthropology, scciology, geography, economics, genetics, literature, linguistics and folk-lore of the tribes of Madhya Pradesh available in Indian and Foreign languages and dialects lying scattered in current books as also in rare and out-of-print books and periodicals and in rare manuscripts present in different libraries in India and abroad. About 1600 references to ancient, medieval and modern texts and translations, historical chroni cles, itineraries, personal narratives, biographies, accounts, anecdotes, reports, surveys, evaluations, comparative studies etc. which refer to one aspect or another of the tribes of Madhya Pradesh, have been collected and presented in this book.
