Preface

Tribal culture in India is a blend of epic words and modernity. The Kinnaure tribe of Himachal Pradesh is a brilliant example of its kind. They inhabit in the border of Kinnaur district and earn their livelihood by rearing farm animals. Their occupation lies in raising wool, agriculture and horticulture.

India has traditionally been the home of different cultures and people. Unity in diversity is one of the most prominent features in the people of India. Among the diversified population a significant portion is comprised of the tribal people, the original inhabitants of the land. The tribal culture of India and their traditions and practices pervade almost all of the aspects of Indian culture and civilization.

Culture is a community's expression of its worldview i.e. its interpretation of the reality around it or what can be called its philosophy, expressed through its customs, social relations. And organisation, language, rituals, festivals, dress, ornaments and arts. It culminates in its identity. Both the customary law and culture have changed over time.

India is a country of tribes. Why so for the reason India is made of Villages. And till the day there are Villages in the Country, there are bound to be Tribes. So how many tribes are there. I am not from a Government Department, or else I would have been able to give you an exact count. Roughly saying the tribes make 2-3 % of the entire population of India.

Bihar, Madhya Pradesh, Orissa and Andhra Pradesh are some of the states which comprise of Tribes of India. To mention some of them are the Mundas, Orans, Santhalis, Bodos, Dimasas, Gaddis. They are a part of India. These have been living for generations in the lands of the country called India.
