In the multilingual country like India, 'Translation' has always been an important phenomenon. In the era of globalization it has become all the more demanding universally. The point really is: on one hand there are very many languages in the world, and it is impossible for a human being to know all these languages in one life, on the other. Nevertheless, it is possible to know different cultures, different world views, and different literary classics at least through translations. For authentic and hence reliable translation it is also necessary to enter into translation studies. It will be a good idea to study the phenomenon of translation theoretically. What are the aspects of translation, how they matter in arriving at a good translation, how the disciplines of Linguistics, Socio-Linguistics, Comparative Linguistics are significant in the area of Translation etc. are some of the important issues, one needs to study for actually making good translations. This is one fact and the other is, there is no full-fledged M.A. course on Translation taught in any university of our country so far.
