The present monograph describes the life and culture of the Totos who are one of the primitive mongoloid tribes of West Bengal found in the Sub-Himalayan region. The mono- graph specially emphasizes the unique clan organization of this primitive tribal group.

In connection with the work and publication of the mono- graph, the author is highly indebted to the Director General, and the Director, Anthropological Survey of India, Calcutta, who duly approved the proposal of publication.
