This ethnographic study on the Thangal (Koirao) tribe is the outcome of my keen desire to co-operate, support and assist a small cultural-linguistic group to which I myself belong Though I was born and brought up in the Thangal community, to understand the Thangal people in anthropological terms is a new venture on my part because I was a student of social work. To be frank enough, before I took up the present research work, anthropology was unknown to me. However, I get the pleasure when my research work progressed and started realizing the importance of the subject in this type of study it is really sad to express that some Thangal elders who were my key informants had already left for "heavenly abode" before completion of my research work.
At the very outset, I adore and thank the Almighty God who created the universe for opening my eyes and enabling me to fulfil one of His missions in a miraculous manner.
I express my endless gratitude to my research supervisor, Dr. R.K. Ranjit Singh, the then Reader and Head of Anthropology Department DM College of Science, Imphal, now Regional Director, IGNOU, Imphal, for his invaluable guidance who possesses the quality of a Real Academician. Besides this, he has the zeal to uplift the disadvantaged and minority group living in the country. I wish him long life. I am indebted to the Dean, School of Sciences, Manipur University, members of the Departmental Research Committee, Anthropology Department, Manipur University, and D.M.College of Science for allowing me to do research work and extending cooperation to me.
