Preface
Rogavignanam and Vikriti vignanam are compound words. Roga + Vignanam and Vikrit + Vignanam. Roga denotes a disease while vikriti denotes a disorder, a pathology or just any disharmony in an individual.
A student starts his journey in the understanding of Roga nidana from the etiology and later the kriya kala which elucidates the dosha dushya sammurchana evolving into a disesae. It was told by our ancestors.
"Madhavo Nidane Sreshtetie" meaning Madhava Nidanam is the best book on Nidana. However Madhava Nidana should not be the only text a student should follow. He should splurge himself adequately in the nidana of Vagbhata, Caraka and Susrutha also. Amongst these, Sangraha Nidana gives a detail and indepth knowledge.
Usually, a nidana class room teaches only the slokas in order to help the student pass through the examinations. But in my teaching tradition, a student is taught to elaborately disintegrate a vyadhi into the most subtle principle accommodating our amshamsha kalpana. This gives way to clear, precise diagnosis eventually leading to a good treatment.
This work was planned and brought to publications at a very short notice. I have planned to bring out a voluminous and in-depth work in the same subject with my dear friends Dr. S.Gopakumar and Dr. Rahul S. Nair.
I hope my future work on nidana will stand as a hallmark in the field of ayurveda. I wish you all and enjoyable read and a great clinical career.
