Dr. Tomy Plathottam is a vocalist, a music composer, a musicologist, an organist and a thabalist. He is a catholic priest, belonging to the Missionary Congregation of the Blessed Sacrament. He did his B. A. in carnatic music form Bangalore university, M. A. in western music from Italy, and doctorate in harmonic music from Denmark. He had been professor of music in europe, in "Istituto Musicale pergolesi" of Ancona and "Conservatorio Niccolo Paganini" of Genova. At present he is the founder director of Kalasadhaka Academy of Music and Arts in Kollam.
The lessons and principles of carnatic music are dealt excellently in this book, which Dr. Tomy Plathottam mcbs has written, after long years of studies and efforts. The elementary exercises, geerhams, sapthathala alankarams, simple musical forms of dance and vrnamas are included in it with accuracy. The different schemes of thalams, their names and calculations, are also presented very well.
