The Upanisads (as part of the Vedas) are the basic scriptures of Hinduism. The Vedanta philosophy with which the modern savants and philosophers are now fairly familiar, is based on them. Hence it is essential that every educated Indian, especially the Hindus, should have a basic knowledge of these wonderful works.
This series of four booklets contains a brief study of the ten cardinal Upanisads. It is aimed at equipping an average student of religion and philosophy with a basic knowledge of the Upanisads in general and the ten in particular.
This booklet, the first of the series, gives all the essential information needed to understand them.
Then will follow three more, containing the gist of the ten cardinal Upanisads arranged in the traditional order.
We hope that this series of four booklets also will become popular like the other booklets published from here. - S. H.
