The present work approved by Sri. Venkateswara Univer- sity. Tirupati for the award of Ph. D. Degree represents the first attempt ever made so far towards determining the working of The Temple in Andhradēša, It is devoted to a study of temple in its various aspects, namely construction, maintenance, organization, management, worship and festivals. This study is based upon a careful examination of 8,000 inscriptions on stone and copper plates found in several districts of Andhrada and a judicious selection of matter relating to the temple. Care has been taken in selecting examples to the see that inscriptions cover the three distinct parts of Andhradēśa viz., Telangana, Coastal Andhra and Rayalasima and that they are also representative of various centuries.
