Dr. Aparna has many articles written on Temple Architecture to her credit. Her book named 'Devalaya Vastusilpa Parichaya' (in Kannada) is published by Kannada University Hampe in the year 1999 is a pioneer work on temple Architecture. It won a prize of B.M. Sri Pratisthana. It is appreciated as a first book of its kind in this field, by critics and also created a demand within a short period. Currently, this English book titled 'Temple Architecture: A classical Approach' is, not only a translation, but also an enlarged and improvised version of her Kannada book.
This is a source book for the study of Temple Architecture with a classical approach, unlike the western. Structural aspect of the temple, with all its details, is produced here completely, though the illustrations are limited to Karnataka temples. Each and every part of the temple-its nomenclature, features, types, along with the historical development of parts-all are explained here. All the way, they are explained in the light of classical texts. These texts on architecture being the treasure of knowledge in this regard, is explored here and that is the uniqueness of this book. Hence, this book enriches our classical knowledge about temple Architecutre and hope it stands as an unique contribution to the field of Temple Architecture.
