A number of ancient habitation sites and historical monuments abound in Andhra Pradesh which reflect our history and culture. Visitors of all walks of life who travel through the State may gaze with wonder about these in the past which are on display under a single roof.
Today the concept of Museum as a repository, has assumed considerable significance. The cultural remains of the bygone ages displayed artefacts, scientifically classified under provenance, date, material and size which facilitate the visitors to understand about the ancient civilizations and imperial dynasties.
The A.P.State Museum has rich collection of stone age implements, bronzes, paintings, stone sculptures, arms and weapons, textiles, Egyptian mummy, manuscripts, miniature paintings and contemporary art collection, disseminate the knowledge to the native and foreign visitors.
It is a long felt desire to bring out a guide book with precise and authentic information on the artefacts displayed in various galleries of the museum which may inculcate the habit of visiting the Museum by the visitor to know the history and culture of the region.
I feel it a privilege to write a foreword to this book and appreciate Sri P.Joginaidu, the author, for his unstinted efforts and also his associates Smt. Noorjahan Begum, Dr.Mir Fazaluddin Ali Khan, Smt.Y.Radha Lakshmi, Sri Syed Habeebuddin and Smt. N.Lakshmi Devi. I hope that this book will serve the purpose in its true spirit.
