Born in1934, Ruskin Bond has played a pioneering role in the growth of children's literature in India. He was awarded the Padma Shri in 1999 and Padma Bhushan in 2014, besides the sahitya Akademi and other literary awards for his contribution. Most of his works are influenced by life in the foothills of the Himalayas, where he spent his childhood. His first novel, The Room On the Roof, was written when was just 17. He has authored over five hundred works which have established him as one of india's most beloved writers.
