The present book is basically intended for the students of Ayurveda studying Svasthavrtta and Yoga. All those who are interested to know the concepts of preventive medicine in Ayurveda also will be benefitted from this book. Arrangement of chapters is according to the current CCIM syllabus of BAMS course. Important references from Brhatrayis, Laghutrayis and some other relevant books like Manusmrti, Muhurta Martancla have been collected. Commentaries of Cakrapapi and Dalharfra have been given wherever found necessary. Various food articles described in Ayurveda are explained along with their botanical names, properties and nutritive values, which help as a ready-reckoner in diet designing based on the principles of Ayurveda. Communicable diseases have been concisely dealt in the form of tables along with Ayurvedic correlations, which help in comparative analysis. Yoga chapters include references from Patatijali's Yoga Sutra, Hatha Yoga Pradipika and Gheranda Samhita. Practical methods of performing Yogic practices are accompanied by associated physiological changes and indications. Principles of Naturopathy, different modes of treatments, indications, methods of application and Nature cure-diet are dealt in detail. Aspects of primary health care, National programmes, health administration, and role of Ayurveda in present day healthcare system are explained briefly with the help of flow charts, for easy understanding.
About the Author Dr. Mangalagowri V. Rao, born in Honnavar, Karnataka, completed her B.A.M.S. from Government Ayurvedic Medical College, Bangalore in 1998 and post graduation, M.D. (Ayu.) in Svasthavritta in 2002, from Government Ayurveda College, Thiruvananthapuram, Kerala. She started her career as a lecturer at S.S. Rural Ayurvedic Medical College & Hospital, Inchal, Bailahongal and later worked as lecturer in A.L.N. Rao Memorial Ayurvedic Medical College, Koppa. Meanwhile, she got selected in UPSC, joined as medical officer in NCT Delhi in 2005. Presently, she is working as a lecturer in the Department of Svasthavritta and Yoga, Faculty of Ayurveda, Institute of Medical Sciences, Banaras Hindu University, Varanasi. She has many scientific papers presented at various conferences and several guest lectures delivered at various platforms to her credit.
