Jai Shri Nandalala.
"Surrendered" by Mrs. Madhuri Sivaganesh, is a heartfelt offering by the devotee to her God, Guru and mentor, Sri Amma. Through the book, the writer shares with us the unique bond that she experienced with Sri Amma and her reflections on such an association.
Sri Amma, Pujyasri MathiOli R. Sarawathy, introduced to the world by the Great seer of Kanchi, HH Paramacharya as the "Poorna avatar" and Power incarnate of the Goddess Akhilandeswari in human form, was truly special. What made her so, was her deep sense of affection and compassion, her morality, her finely-tuned sense of justice and her practical solutions to issues that faced us, always guiding us to have an unshakeable belief in Truth. She never overawed us with Her Divinity. In fact, She lived amongst us as per the rules that She had set for the world, never wanting to be an exception. She went through life's tribulations, being part of all her devotees' life journeys, prodding them along to realize their fullest potential. Always caring and benevolent, She guarded the rights and freewill of Her children. Simultaneously, She acted as a bridge to preserve and be the Divinity within us to guide and bind us to the Almighty. She led Her life to be an example of what each one of us is capable of leading, in Her own words "Nothing is impossible".
This book is a testament to the writer's deep affection for Sri Amma and her realizing the Divine presence, as part of her own Self. She has been blessed to pen her free-flowing thoughts while relating the experiences with Sri Amma. Throughout the book, the writer's devotion towards Sri Amma is evident and her abject surrender without any reservations, always acting on the guidance provided by Sri Amma reflects the same. In the book, she takes us through various happenings in her life, where Sri Amma has played Her subtle role and while continuing to do so, echoes the maxim, "We do not know what the future holds for us, but we do know who holds our future"
Several instances quoted in the book reveal Sri Amma playing the role of the guardian angel, always ready to help, when sought for, by the sincere devotee. In certain cases, the writer has been able to depict Sri Amma's original and modern approach contrary to the orthodox approach, which we might generally tend to label Divinity with. Listening to Sri Amma's advice may not always guarantee a smooth and jolly ride. While the journey could be a roller coaster ride with its emotional ups and downs, the writer has been able to reflect that so long as we cling on to the safety belt of Faith (i.e.) Sri Amma, any roller coaster in life can be completed without fear and with ease.
