Nowhere is the nectar of Swami Rajarshi Muni's inner experience of his Yoga sadhana of over four decades more comprehensively expressed than in the prolific output of his Bhajans or devotional songs. About 700 of these are available, about equally in Gujarati and Hindi and Hindustani languages. This volume, the last of a planned quartet, presents 70 of his bhajans drawn from various published editions of his collections and, most importantly, eighteen of his latest ghazals first publicly revealed in late 2016.
At its loftiest, a bhajan is typically a spontaneous outpouring of a devotee's heart, manifesting itself in various metric and musical forms. Muniji's bhajans spring from the boundless ocean of his inner Yoga experience. As he has himself observed, 'Yoga experiences are prolific, for the inner Soul is an ocean of nectar'. They also represent the 'nadopasana' (worship of sound) aspect of his spiritual practice. As he has observed: The uniqueness of bhajans manifesting as a part of nadopasana is that while they concentrate the singer's mind, they also move the minds of the listener.
Muniji's bhajans present the essential teachings of the Scriptures in easily comprehensible musical form and offer a unique opportunity to the reader to walk the path of devotion. This compilation will place an essential part of Muniji's spiritual writings within the reach of English speaking disciples but also, hopefully, enable them to sing along.
About the Author: Swami Rajarshi Muni was born on 11th February 1931 in Porbandar, in western Gujarat, in the princely lineage of the Jadeja rulers of Kutch. He received sannyas initiation in February 1971 and thereafter devoted himself almost exclusively to secluded Yoga sadhana of the khechari mudra expounded and practiced in the modern spiritual tradition of Lord Lakulish, twenty-eighth incarnation of Lord Shiv, in which he is the present spiritual head. In 1993, in response to a spiritual calling, he temporarily interrupted his self-imposed seclusion to undertake a worldwide campaign to spread the knowledge of Yoga and the moral, cultural and spiritual values of the Sanatan (eternal) Indian heritage. He resumed secluded sadhana in 2007 to complete his Yoga and establish the authenticity of the principle of the indestructible Divine Body, on which he has shed profound light from a position of eminent qualification based on personal practice and experience. He is an advanced yogi, a realized Master in the classic mould of Indian adepts, knower of the kundalini and master of the khechari mudra. The extraordinary heights he has attained in his Yoga practice establish him firmly as the latest addition to the lineage of siddhs (adepts) which has long embellished the Indian spiritual tradition.
